Message Went ahead and dropped the engine into the bay and installed the downpipes, but not before wrapping them with some exhaust insulating wrap. I recall my feet getting pretty hot before due to the radiant heat from the downpipes on the firewall and floor, so I went ahead and gave them a good wrapping. I have read that keeping the heat in the gases rather than it dissipating through the pipes will maintain the velocity of the exhaust gases, which is beneficial to the engine performance, but even if it hurts performance, I feel that I will have plenty of power on tap that the difference would be negligible - I'm just tired of hot feet.

I also took the entire starter apart, cleaned all the parts and inspected them, repainted the motor body and solenoid, and nickel plated the motor endplate (seen below). The starter originally looked like it came out of a junkyard.

Wideband O2 sensor bungs

And then onto the install of these babies:
9.4"H X 8"W X 4.5"D

Mounted into car with OEM brackets

The fascia fits onto the car without any contact between it and the intercoolers - there is actually a conservative amount of room between them - this will be nice in the case that things have to be moved around any for good fitment of everything. The SMICs sit no lower than a set of HKS intercoolers that are on a customer's vehicle with me right now and there wont be any problems installing the undercarriage plastic shields to the fascia.

There is also good clearance between the radiator overflow tank as well as the convertible washer fluid reservoir (I am using this for my water injection setup), so I wont have to worry about any contact wear on the ICs.

I have all the mandrel-bent piping to complete the fabrication of the 2.5" intake piping set. Gotta go to my storage facility to pickup all of the OEM AC components so I can build the piping around them to ensure proper fitment into Dee Ridgeway's TT. One of the goals of the upcoming trip to PA is to final-tune Dee's (Slowninja) TT with the OEM intake piping and Stillen SMICs, then install the 2.5" system and my sidemount intercoolers to get back to back comparisons on performance. I will also have thermocouples linked into the ZEM and connected at both the inlet and outlet of the SMIC, as well as taking pressure readings on the inlets and outlets, all datalogged through the ZEM. Since the ZEM also datalogs the MAS voltage, we will be able to see differences in the massflow of air through the system due to a more efficient intercooler and plumbing system. Should be interesting information, regardless of the results.
